Casey Castle Starts Rolling

Now 2 year old filly Casey Castle rounded off her second preparation for Bill Walker with a solid workout at the trainer's Pearcedale property on Saturday morning 24th September.

The daughter of Art Major has now completed her basic education over two preparations and has been allowed to roll along in recent weeks as the transistion from overgrown baby to potential racehorse begins. On Saturday morning Casey worked with Play The Trump, an unraced 3 year old trotter, and showed that she had done enough this time in with an uptempo run over 2,000m.

Casey Castle now heads to the spelling paddock for a short 3 week break.

Pleasingly for members of the Cranbourne Allstars # 1 Group, Bill is hopeful that when she returns she can progress to the stage of competing in official qualifying trials sometime around Christmas!! (All unraced`horses need to compete satisfactorily in qualifying trials before becoming elegible to race under HRV rules. The trials also give young horses invaluable experience in terms of being away from home, seeing a mobile barrier for the first time and racing in a field. Held At Cranbourne on a regular basis on Saturday mornings, the trials also give new and old owners alike a reason to get to the track and live the dream).

In other news, the syndicate made its 2 year old sustaining payment for the rich Vicbred Super Series in the past week. Restricted to Vicbred eligible 2 year fillies, heats of the series are held in June culminating in $20,000 semi finals at Melton and a $100,000 final on Friday 6th July 2012.

Hopefully ahead of that assignment our filly will be forward enough to compete in the APG Sales Series in April.  A 2 year futurity, the series brings together graduates of the Australian Pacing Gold Yearling Sales to compete in a round of $20,000 heats enroute to a $300,000 final on the 27th April.
